The municipal election scheduled for October 22nd in Brampton promises to bring significant changes to the city. Vision Brampton is a new civic and community engagement group led entirely by young people and they are looking to make a major impact with young voters during the election.
Don McLeod, the President and Founder of Brampton Focus Community Media says that “young voters can make a huge impact on who gets elected and how the future of our city unfolds.” He adds that “the city spent a lot of money and time to create plans and a vision for our future, and we need people on council that represent our young, diverse and educated population.”
Vision Brampton is exactly that: young, diverse and educated. And yet, Founder Marilyn Verghis says that “municipal politics aren’t easy to follow as a young voter. We started on this journey as regular citizens who saw equity issues persisting in Brampton, and we knew voting would be one way to effect the changes we wanted to see. As more and more young people joined, it made sense to spread that learning and build a community of voters committed to equity to unpack and understand the issues together”.
The group is partnering with Brampton Focus on the 2018 City Building Mayoral Debate at the Rose Theater on September 25th.
Tickets for the Mayoral Debate and Pre-Debate Social are free, however, pre-registration is required. Young and first-time voters can register with Vision Brampton for the #BramptonsHere Pre-Debate Social. Your registration to the social includes access to the Mayoral Debate.
